Bio/Description

Paola is a first-generation high school graduate from Medellin, Colombia. She came to the United States right after finishing high school and went to John Jay college of Criminal Justice in New York city to obtain her bachelor’s degree in forensic science. After college, she took a year off while working as a cashier at the statue of liberty’s gift shop; this experienced helped her realize she wanted to continue doing science, so she applied to a Biochemistry Master’s program at Hunter College. During her time at Hunter, she did research in a lab, taught organic chemistry and prepared to apply to PhD programs. She received her PhD from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she did protein crystallography. She is now a postdoc in the department of Molecular Biology at Princeton working on peptide from the human microbiome.
