The SIFP Faculty & Staff Fellows program helps students establish meaningful connections and relationships with faculty and staff that will persist through their undergraduate careers. Faculty and Staff Fellows come from departments and programs across the university, and engage with SIFP students in multiple ways:
- They participate in SIFP’s “Decoding Princeton” workshop series, offering insight into how to successfully navigate precepts and office hours, how to translate a syllabus, and more.
- They facilitate events in our new “Mysteries of Princeton” series, where faculty and staff lead students to cool spaces and places on campus. I.e., a REL faculty member taking students to Special Collections to examine the Gutenberg Bible and other interesting items. Or an ARC faculty member leading students on a “Gargoyle Tour” of the fascinating buildings on campus.
- They participate in our “Dinner with Departments” series where multiple faculty members in a field come and have a catered dinner with interested students in the SIFP Suite, and talk in-depth about what their department does and how it supports students who major or minor in it.
- They take part in “Faculty Hangouts” events on Fridays, coming to the SIFP Suite to speak about their work or field more broadly; coming to the Suite to play board games with students that help foster skills within fields like Math, COS, etc; leading students to local places just off campus such as the Bent Spoon for ice cream; and other fun forms of engagement.
- They help with our new “It’s B.S.!” series, where student staff and faculty debunk misconceptions students have about academics at Princeton, and do so over coffee at various locations on and just off campus.
- They sponsor new workshops on subjects ranging from “Creating Public Arts Projects like Podcasts” to “How to Get Involved with STEM Research at Princeton.”
- They also help us develop academic and co-curricular support materials for students and connect students with research opportunities.
Students are encouraged to attend many of these events and to engage with our enthusiastic group of Faculty and Staff Fellows!
